This guide is for travelers visiting the main spots in the Dogo area (Dogo Park, Ishiteji and Isaniwa Shrine) in the autumn foliage season. Based on primary sources, it summarizes the opening, admission and reception hours, parking, cultural properties, and what the official sites actually publish about when the leaves are at their best.
Dogo Park (Yuzuki Castle Ruins, a National Historic Site): Hours, Exhibition Facilities and Parking
Dogo Park is open at all times (24 hours) and admission is free. The museum and exhibition facilities in the park (the samurai residence building, the earthwork exhibition room and others) are open from 9:00 to 17:00 with free admission. They are closed every Monday (the next weekday if Monday is a public holiday) and over the year-end and New Year period (December 29 to January 3). The exhibition facilities show panels and excavated artifacts on the outline of the excavation surveys, the history of the Kono clan, and the lives of the samurai in the castle. Parking is 100 yen per 30 minutes per vehicle (available 24 hours). The "Four Seasons Scenery" page of the official site lists balloon flowers and other autumn plants, but gives no figures or specific timing for when the autumn leaves (maple and Japanese maple) are at their best.
Ishiteji (Temple No. 51 of the Shikoku Pilgrimage): Address, Cultural Properties and Telephone Reception
Ishiteji (address: 2-9-21 Ishite, Matsuyama, Ehime; telephone: 089-977-0870) takes telephone inquiries from 8:00 to 17:00 every day of the year, and has a parking lot. The grounds include the National Treasure Niomon gate, built in 1318 (Bunpo 2; 7 m high, three bays wide, 4 m deep, two-story hip-and-gable roof with tiles), as well as the Main Hall, three-story pagoda, bell tower, five-ringed stone pagoda, Karitei-mo-ten Hall and Goma Hall, all Important Cultural Properties. Neither the temple's official site nor the official page of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temples Association gives any numerical or written information on when the leaves in the grounds are at their best.
Isaniwa Shrine: Address, Reception Hours and Parking
Isaniwa Shrine (address: 173 Sakuradani-cho, Matsuyama, Ehime; telephone: 089-947-7447) accepts prayer requests and red-seal requests from 9:00 to 17:00, and its amulet office is open from 9:00 to 18:00. It has an attached parking lot. The shrine's official site announces autumn festivals and other events, but gives no figures or written guidance on when the leaves in the grounds are at their best.

How We Checked, and Limits
On October 5, 2026, we retrieved the HTML directly from the official websites of each temple, shrine and Dogo Park, and extracted and organized only the facts published there: opening and reception hours, parking, and exhibits and cultural properties.
-
A statement that the City of Matsuyama official site introduces autumn foliage spots in the city (Okudogo, Mt. Takanawa, the Ninomaru Historical Garden and others) and their peak season (early to late November) was removed together with its paragraph in this revision (2026-10-07), because we could not obtain the primary URL, original text or confirmation date. If we can obtain the primary information, we will add it with its source.
-
The official sites of Dogo Park, Ishiteji and Isaniwa Shrine have no official statement on when maple and Japanese maple leaves are at their best. We have not guessed or used figures from third-party foliage reports, and list this as not stated.
-
Reception hours for visits, prayers and red seals at temples and shrines may change temporarily because of events or festivals. Check the latest notice just before your visit.
-
If the Monday closing day of the Dogo Park exhibition facilities (samurai residence and earthwork exhibition room) falls on a public holiday, the facilities are closed the next weekday.
