Touring by Bicycle Starting from Dogo Onsen — Rental Bicycle Locations and Fees, Bringing Bikes onto Trains and Boats
Based on primary information from Matsuyama City and respective operators, this article summarizes operators renting bicycles around Dogo Onsen and their fees, the Iyo Railway Cycle Train, and the availability and fares for bringing bicycles onto Gogoshima and Kashima.
Places to Rent a Bicycle Around Dogo Onsen
Matsuyama City publishes a list of rental bicycle operators in the city under "Sightseeing Rental Bicycle Information" (updated April 23, 2026). The former "Matsuyama Sightseeing Rental Bicycle" service has ended, and private operators currently offer rentals individually.
Among the 6 operators listed, the following two can be reached from the Dogo Onsen area on foot or via a short trip.
| Operator | Location | Rental Hours | Rates | |---|---|---|---| | Shikoku Tours Cycling Base | 1-1-10 Iwado-cho, Matsuyama (10-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station; opposite Dogokan and Yachiyo) | In principle 9:00–18:00; Irregular holidays | E-BIKE (Specialized): 4,400 yen / 4 hours, 8,800 yen / day; Mini Bike (Brompton): 2,200 yen / 4 hours, 4,400 yen / day | | Giant Store Matsuyama | 5-1 Dogo Kitadai, Matsuyama (Iyotetsu Kami-Ichiman Station / Dogo Kitadai bus stop) | Weekdays 10:00–18:00 / Weekends & Holidays 9:00–18:00; Closed Tuesdays | Cross bike from 2,970 yen / Road bike from 3,465 yen / E-BIKE from 6,930 yen |
If extending your trip to the city center, there is "Cycle Station Monkeys" in Okaido (2-5-13 Ichibancho; open year-round except New Year's Day; 7:00–24:00; standard city bike 500 yen / day) and "Sugiyama Ringyo" on the 1st floor of ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel Matsuyama (3-2-1 Ichibancho; electric-assist bike 2,200 yen / 5 hours, 4,400 yen / 1 day, etc.). The two shops in the Dogo area mainly carry sports-type bikes, so if you want to rent a standard city bicycle at a low cost, the shops in the city center offer more options.
In addition, Matsuyama City has an agreement with a shared bicycle operator (HELLO CYCLING), and stations are set up at JR Matsuyama Station bicycle parking, Okaido bicycle parking, around Dogo Onsen Station, Matsuyama Castle parking, and other locations.

Bringing Bicycles onto Boats ― Availability When Crossing to Islands
Whether you can bring a bicycle to the islands floating off the coast of Matsuyama depends on the ferry route.
Gogoshima (Departing Takahama Port) ― Allowed on Board
Gogoshima Co., Ltd. operates 14 ferry trips per day connecting Takahama Port and Gogoshima (Yura Port / Tomari Port). One-way passenger fare is 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for children; bicycles cost 160 yen one-way, and motorcycles of 125cc or less cost 310 yen. Required travel time is approximately 13 minutes for the Yura route and approximately 10 minutes for the Tomari route.
Instead of bringing a bicycle, you can also rent one on the island. Yura Port has electric-assist bikes (1,500 yen, including return ferry fare), GIANT cross bikes (1,000 yen), TOKYO BIKE models (1,000 yen), standard city bikes (800 yen), junior/kids bikes (500 yen each), and tandems (2,000 yen). Tomari Port offers standard city bikes only. If the return port differs from the rental port, a drop-off fee of 200 yen per bicycle applies.
Nakajima (Departing Mitsuhama Port, Takahama Port, Matsuyama Sightseeing Port) ― Available to Rent on the Island
Nakajima Kisen operates routes to various ports in the Kutsuna Islands. To Oura Port on Nakajima, one-way adult fare is 700 yen on the ferry and 910 yen on the high-speed boat. High-speed boats only depart from and arrive at Takahama Port and do not operate from Mitsuhama Port. On the Matsuyama side, cars can only be loaded at Mitsuhama Port.
Nakajima Kisen offers rental bicycles at the terminal immediately after disembarking at Oura Port, with rates cheaper than in Matsuyama City at 200 yen/day for standard city bikes and 500 yen/day for cross bikes. Open year-round from 8:00 to 18:00.
Hojo Kashima (Departing Hojo) ― Not Allowed as Is
On the Kashima Park Ferry operated by Matsuyama City, bicycles cannot be brought on board as is. They can be brought as hand luggage if stored in a bicycle travel bag (rinko bag). Round-trip ferry fare is 230 yen for adults, 120 yen for children, and 120 yen for seniors aged 65 and over.
Note that cars cannot enter Kashima, and all transportation on the island is on foot. For transporting luggage, handcarts (rear cars) are rented out free of charge at the ferry waiting area on the Hojo side.
Prerequisites for Riding a Bicycle
Under the Road Traffic Act, bicycles are classified as light vehicles and must in principle be ridden on the left side of the roadway. Following the revised Road Traffic Act of April 1, 2023, all bicycle riders have a duty of effort to wear a helmet. Matsuyama City also urges the wearing of helmets.
Rates, schedules, and available bicycle models are subject to revision. The figures listed here were published on each primary source as of August 7, 2026, so please confirm with each operator's information before use.
