Getting a Numbered Ticket and Finding Places to Wait at Dogo Onsen Honkan and Asuka no Yu When They Are Crowded

Numbered tickets for Dogo Onsen's public baths are issued only when the bathhouse is crowded. Your ticket becomes invalid if you do not arrive within 15 minutes of the call. The official crowd display is updated every 10 minutes. While you wait, you can visit Sora no Sanpomichi, the Hojoen footbath or the Karakuri Clock.

The 3 Steps for Getting a Numbered Ticket, and How to Read Crowding

Enter your bathing course, number of people and contact details in the call system, then receive a numbered ticket. 1 representative can do this for the group.
You can wait outside the building until you receive a phone call.
Arrive within 15 minutes of the call, show the numbered ticket at the outdoor ticket booth (fudaba) and buy a bathing ticket. After 15 minutes, the ticket is cancelled automatically.

Tsubaki no Yu uses a different calling method from the Honkan and Asuka no Yu.

Is It Crowded Now? How to Read the Live Crowd Display

The Dogo Onsen official area guide's Crowding Status for the 3 Dogo Onsen Baths shows the Honkan's Kami no Yu and Rei no Yu, Asuka no Yu and Tsubaki no Yu, with men's and women's baths listed separately. There are 6 states: “Available,” “Somewhat crowded,” “Crowded,” “Outside opening hours,” “System maintenance” and “System preparing.”

The data is updated every 10 minutes; reload the page in your browser to see the latest information. Even when a crowd level is shown, entry may be restricted for emergency maintenance. Contact each facility for details.

The top page of the Dogo Onsen official website (dogo.jp) has a “Waiting Time / Usage Status” section that shows the wait for each course: the Honkan's Kami no Yu ground floor, Kami no Yu 2nd-floor seating, Rei no Yu 2nd-floor seating, Rei no Yu 3rd-floor private room and reserved room; Asuka no Yu's 1st-floor bath, 2nd-floor large hall, 2nd-floor private room and 2nd-floor special bathroom; and Tsubaki no Yu's 1st-floor bath.

What Time Are Numbered Tickets Issued?

Numbered tickets are issued according to how crowded the bathhouse is. There is no fixed start time, and when the wait is short, you may wait on the spot without using the call system.

Depending on crowds, the day's numbered tickets may already have run out. When distribution has ended, the waiting-time section on the official website shows “Guidance finished for today,” and only people who already hold a numbered ticket can bathe.

From Receiving a Numbered Ticket to Bathing

At the Honkan and Asuka no Yu, the time until the call is an estimate and varies with crowds. Show your numbered ticket at the outdoor ticket booth, buy a bathing ticket, put your shoes in a shoe locker, and show the bathing ticket at reception (Guide to Using the Baths). Shoe lockers are free and keyed at the Honkan, and keyed with a 100-yen return at Asuka no Yu.

If you have reserved a private room or Yushinden at the Honkan, or the special bathroom at Asuka no Yu, do not join the ticket line. Tell the staff at the ticket booth that you have a reservation.

At Tsubaki no Yu, staff call numbers in order rather than phoning. Arrive by the estimated time, and return about 10 minutes before it to a place where you can hear the announcements. Buy a bathing ticket from the ticket machine inside.

Going to the Honkan After You Receive the Call

According to Matsuyama City's information, it is about a 3–5 minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station on the city tram to the Honkan. Allow that time when heading there after you receive the call.

Routes You Can Walk While Waiting

Sora no Sanpomichi: an observation walkway on Kanmuriyama, south of the Honkan, overlooking the whole Honkan. It has a free-flowing source-water footbath (6:00–21:00, free) and a changing booth.
Hojoen: a square in front of Dogo Onsen Station at the entrance to Dogo Shopping Street. The footbath is open 6:00–23:00 and is free. The Botchan Karakuri Clock moves every hour from 8:00 to 22:00; on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, every day in March, April, August and November, over the New Year period (12/28–1/5) and from 5/1 to 5/5, it moves every 30 minutes.
Dogo Haikara-dori (Dogo Shopping Street): the shopping street that leads from Hojoen to the Honkan.

Switching to Another Public Bath Such as Tsubaki no Yu

Because the 3 baths have separate displays, you can avoid the Honkan and go to Tsubaki no Yu or Asuka no Yu. Tsubaki no Yu also issues numbered tickets when crowded.

If you plan to visit all 3, there is the “Dogo Onsen 3-Bath Tour Ticket.” It costs 1,440 yen for adults and 680 yen for children and is valid for 2 days: the day of purchase and the following day. It covers the Honkan's Kami no Yu ground floor, Tsubaki no Yu and Asuka no Yu's 1st-floor bath, and can be bought at the counters of the 3 baths. Crowds During the November Holidays (Culture Day and Labor Thanksgiving Day)

In 2026, November 3 (Tuesday) is Culture Day, and November 21 (Saturday) to November 23 (Monday) is a 3-day weekend that includes Labor Thanksgiving Day.
