Oyamazumi Jinja Shrine (Ishite)
A shrine located in Ishite, Matsuyama City. It is said to have been founded in 1279 when Kono Michiari transferred the divided deity from Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima.
A shrine located in Ishite, Matsuyama City, enshrined in an area on the east side of Ishite-ji Temple near the Ishite River. The enshrined deity is Oyamazumi-no-Kami, and it is a shrine where the divided spirit was transfer-enshrined from Oyamazumi Shrine (Imabari City) on Omishima, the Ichinomiya of Iyo Province.
According to shrine records, the warrior of Iyo, Kono Michiari, is said to have confined himself at Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima to pray for the surrender of enemy nations, received its divided spirit, and founded the shrine in Ishite Village in 1279. This is the period between the Bunei War in 1274 and the Koan War in 1281, and historical records show that Kono Michiari fought bravely in the Koan War.
Regarding Kumano Kotai Jingu, which is also enshrined, it is recorded that Kono Okikata transfer-enshrined it in 892, predating the transfer-enshrining of Oyamazumi-no-Kami.
It is located approximately 1.2 kilometers east of Dogo Onsen Honkan and within walking distance of Ishite-ji Temple, the 51st temple of the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage. It is situated in a location where visitors can stop by along with their pilgrimage to Ishite-ji Temple.
