How to Choose Dinner in Dogo
Dinner in Dogo Onsen splits into two main styles. One is to stay overnight and eat the evening meal at your ryokan or hotel, and the other is to go out to a restaurant in town. If you are staying over, decide first between a plan with dinner and a room-only plan, then choose a place in town.
Eating Dinner at a Ryokan or Hotel
When you stay overnight, eating at your lodging's dining room or restaurant involves the least travel. Some lodgings in Dogo have dining rooms that serve kaiseki cuisine or seafood from the Seto Inland Sea.
- Restaurant Aoi-goke at Funaya: you can dine with a view of the Japanese garden. Dinner is around 17:00-22:00, from about 6,000 yen (to be confirmed).
- Saryo Hanakoji at Dogo Onsen Chaharu: a Japanese dining room with kaiseki cuisine and a buffet. Dinner is around 18:00-21:30, from the 5,000 yen range.
- LA CUISINE JAPONAISE Hari at Dogo Onsen Chaharu: a dining room facing an English garden. Dinner is around 18:00-21:30, from about 5,500 yen.
- QUATRE CINQ at CHAHARU Hanare Dogo Yumekura: a modern French restaurant. Dinner is around 18:00-22:00, from about 8,000 yen.
Some of these dining rooms are open to non-guests, but seating reservations and opening days change. Please check with the lodging before you stay.
Eating Local Cuisine in Town
Around Dogo Onsen there are restaurants serving Ehime dishes such as Uwajima taimeshi and Matsuyama taimeshi. Some taimeshi restaurants close early when the sea bream sells out, so be careful if you plan to go late.
- Ganso Uwajima Taimeshi Marusui Dogo: dinner is around 17:00-21:00 (last order 20:30). It closes when the sea bream sells out.
- Kadoya Dogo Ekimae: dinner is around 17:00-21:00 (last order 20:30). Uwajima taimeshi is its signature dish.
- Matsuyama Taimeshi Akiyoshi Dogo: dinner is around 17:00-21:00 (last order 20:30). You can compare Matsuyama taimeshi and Uwajima taimeshi.
- Isshinmaru Dogo: 10:30-15:00 and 17:00-22:30. It sits inside the Dogo shopping arcade.
- Unagi Ogura Dogo: dinner is around 17:00-20:00. Besides unaju and gyuju, it also offers takeout.
Izakaya and Evening Bars
Some izakaya and bars stay open late. Some welcome guests in yukata, which suits a drink after a bath.
- Dogo BEER BAR (formerly Dogo Bakushukan): around 15:00-22:00. It is across from Dogo Onsen Honkan.
- Doramomiji Red Yuzukicho: dinner is around 18:00-22:00. It serves sashimi from the Seto Inland Sea and local sake.
- Robata Ryori Sukekaku Dogo: around 16:00-22:00. It serves Seto Inland Sea fish cooked robata-style.
- Iyo Tanuki: around 18:00-1:00 the next morning. It serves local flavors such as saba-zushi and horse sashimi.
- Tonma: a set-meal shop at lunch and an izakaya around 17:00-23:00 at night.
- Samurai Dining Irori: dinner is around 17:00-22:00. It serves Ehime ingredients with shochu and sake.
Western Food, Meat, and Other Options
When you want something other than local cuisine, you can also choose Western food, yakiniku, or French. Opening hours and closing days differ by shop, so check before you visit.
- Il Positano: an Italian restaurant in Dogo-Yunomachi. Dinner is around 17:00-22:00, from the 4,000 yen range.
- Yakiniku Yorozuya Dogo: around 17:00-22:00. All seats are private rooms with sunken kotatsu tables.
- havre de paix: a casual French restaurant near Dogo Park. Dinner is around 18:00-21:30 and is by reservation only.
- Sushitomo: dinner is around 17:30-21:30. A sushi restaurant in Dogo-Kitadai.
- Nosan Shokudo: Monday-Saturday, around 11:00-21:00. A local diner in Dogo-Kitadai.
What to Check Before Dinner
- Many restaurants in Dogo split their hours between lunch and dinner, and many close around 21:00.
- Taimeshi and similar dishes can end early when the sea bream sells out. If you plan to go late, calling ahead is safer.
- Dinner at a ryokan or hotel may be included in your plan or charged separately.
