Maeda Goken Senryu Monument (Path of Haiku)

Maeda Goken Senryu Monument (Path of Haiku)

A senryu monument to Maeda Goken on the Dogo-machi 2-chome side of the "Path of Haiku" in Dogo (the street east of the Ehime Prefectural Culture Hall). It is inscribed with the senryu "いろいろの歴史道後の湯はつきず".

The Maeda Goken Senryu Monument (Path of Haiku) stands on the Dogo-machi 2-chome side of the "Path of Haiku", the street that runs along the east side of the Ehime Prefectural Culture Hall. It is inscribed with the senryu "いろいろの歴史道後の湯はつきず" (Iroiro no rekishi Dogo no yu wa tsukizu).

Maeda Goken (1889–1960) was a senryu poet born in Takamatsu, whose real name was Kyutaro. He moved to Matsuyama, worked for many years at Iyo Railway, and helped build up the senryu scene in Ehime from the Taisho era onward. He is also known as the originator of "yakyuken", a party game that spread nationwide.

The monument stands along the road of the "Path of Haiku", and the local information board lists it on the Dogo-machi 2-chome side. The map pin on this page marks a representative point of the Dogo-machi 2-chome section, not the exact position of this monument. The full list of the 11 haiku (on 10 monuments) is on the "Path of Haiku" page.
