Kawahigashi Hekigoto Haiku Monument (Path of Haiku)

The Kawahigashi Hekigoto Haiku Monument (Path of Haiku) stands on the Dogo 2-chome side of the "Path of Haiku", which runs beside the Ehime Prefectural Culture Hall. It is inscribed with the verse "Onsen meguri shite modorishi heya ni momo no ikete aru".
Kawahigashi Hekigoto (1873–1937), whose real name was Kawahigashi Heigoro, was a haiku poet born in Matsuyama. He studied under his fellow townsman Masaoka Shiki and, together with Takahama Kyoshi, was called one of the two pillars of Shiki's disciples. He is known for promoting "new-trend haiku", which was not bound by the 5-7-5 form or seasonal words, and for influencing later free-verse haiku.
The monument stands along the road of the "Path of Haiku", and the local information board lists it on the Dogo 2-chome side. The map pin on this page marks a representative point of the Dogo 2-chome section, not the exact position of this monument. Iyo Yuoka Monument (Replica)
A hot-spring monument in the courtyard of Dogo Onsen Annex Asuka-no-Yu-Zen. Inspired by the Iyo Yuoka Monument, said to record Prince Shotoku's visit to the spa, its inscription is rendered in the script of the "Hokke Gisho".

A monument in Dogo Park. It honours Isaniwa Yukiya, the first mayor of Dogo Yunomachi, who led the 1894 (Meiji 27) rebuilding of Dogo Onsen Honkan. The Honkan is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property.

A haiku monument is located in Hojoen, in front of Dogo Onsen Honkan. It commemorates Ryu Hiroshi (1867–1957), a poet from Matsuyama. Ryu Hiroshi founded the literary magazine 'Hototogisu' in Matsuyama in 1897, and became the first honorary citizen of Matsuyama City.
