How to Choose Tobe Ware
Tobe ware is a traditional craft of Japan made in Tobe Town, south of Matsuyama. Characterized by hand-painting in gosu indigo on milky-white, thick porcelain, it is resistant to breaking and easy to hold even with hot contents, making it a popular choice for everyday vessels. Designs include karakusa-mon as well as taiyo-mon (sun motif) and tokusa-mon, and brushwork differs from kiln to kiln even for the same vessel.
