Tsuboya Kashiho
A long-established Dogo confectioner founded in 1883 (Meiji 16), said to be the model for the dango shop in Soseki's Botchan. It sells the original Botchan dango and shoyu-mochi.
This is a Japanese confectionery shop established in 1883 located in the Dogo Onsen shopping street, and is a long-established store said to be the model for the dango shop that appears in Soseki Natsume's novel "Botchan". According to the official website, the first generation, Kichigoro Aihara, traded "Yusarashi Dango", tea, and other items from 1883, and after the publication of the novel, the second generation, Utaro Aihara, is said to have devised the three-colored "Botchan Dango".
Botchan Dango is sold only at this store because it is handmade one by one using carefully selected ingredients such as Shumari red beans and Otembo beans from Hokkaido. Since 2005, the recipe has been changed to replace egg yolk paste with white bean paste, avoiding the use of eggs and dairy. The price is 280 yen for a pack of 2, 1,400 yen for a pack of 10, etc. It also handles seasonal Japanese sweets such as Sakuramochi, Shoyumochi, and Wasanbon, and is located about a 3-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station.
